Exergy3 - Annandale Distillery
Exergy3 received £3.6 million in grant funding from the UK Government in 2023 to set up a demonstrator project at Annandale Distillery in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. Exergy3's thermal energy storage technology will support the distillery’s net zero targets by decarbonising its distillation process.
The modular Exergy3 system will take green, low-cost electricity from the grid at times when supply exceeds demand and convert it into thermal energy, storing this in its system core at temperatures of up to 1300C. This heat is then outputted as hot gas directly into the onsite Cochran boiler, thus removing the need for the boiler to be powered by natural gas.
