Help Industry to Help Net Zero

This report is in response to the UK policy gap around decarbonisation of energy use for industrial sites located outside of the six Government recognised clusters.

What we found:

• The UK can save 770,000 jobs by decarbonising dispersed industrial sites
• Electrification could cut industrial CO2 emissions by 78%
• 98% of respondents to DESNZ's call for evidence on electrification in 2024 said the current policy landscape was not sufficient to enable electrification

What we’re asking for:

• RESPs to help the electricity system meet its net zero targets by identifying and facilitating co-location of supply, storage and demand in optimised, grid-connected microgrids (e.g. industrial energy parks)
• A massive capital investment from Government in the form of an Electrification Business Plan for all industry (in and outside the clusters), to the same tune of support for CCUS and hydrogen.
