Demand-side measures (D3)

We define D3 as the spectrum of activities that encompass the demand side of energy use, namely:

• Demand Reduction – long-term reduction of demand through effective energy management, also known as energy efficiency or energy productivity
• Demand Response – short-term shifting or flexing of load; reducing demand, increasing export or taking excess energy from a network
• Distributed Generation – decentralised generation of heat or electricity either used on site or exporting to the electricity distribution network or heat to a heat network.
