Vital Energi - Leeds Pipes
To date, the project has created over 430 local jobs in the low carbon sector, including 19 apprenticeships. Additionally, it has delivered 14 Climate Education & Energy Saving workshops, created 15 work experience placements, and contributed 256 volunteering hours. The project has also allocated 64% of its budget to local suppliers.
Since its inception in 2017, Leeds PIPES, managed by Vital Energi with Leeds City Council and Ener-Vate, has expanded to 30km, serving over 2,600 homes and 28 key buildings including Leeds Playhouse, St James’s Hospital, Leeds Beckett University, and the Combined Courts.
The network utilises two energy centres that capture waste heat from a Recycling and Energy Recovery Facility, with future expansion planned into its 4th phase. In 2023 alone, Leeds PIPES saved 5,945 tonnes of carbon.
