SSE - Royal Woolwich Arsenal

SSE is retrofitting and expanding the heat network at Royal Arsenal in Woolwich (SE London) with decarbonisation work scheduled for 2027. Originally serving 450 homes, the heat network will support over 5,000 properties through decarbonisation and infrastructure enhancements when complete.

In 2015 as part of the expansion of the site, SSE led the design and delivery of the expansion works for the energy centre adding two mezzanine floors to the existing energy centre, installing a larger plant and managing supply resilience to all connected customers during works.

The next phase of the expansion and decarbonisation works will see the installation of an Air Source Heat Pump to supply 70% of the heat and which is expected to save c2,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually. SSE manages all aspects of the network including 24/7/365 customer care for all connected customers.
