Hemiko - Greenwich Peninsula
The Greenwich Peninsula Heat Network has been developed alongside the ambitious regeneration of Greenwich Peninsula. The network currently includes 87MW of heat generation, distributed via 16km of buried pipework, supplying heat to 33 buildings and 2,500 residential units. Network resilience is inbuilt, with thermal storage capacity sufficient to provide heat across the entire network for 24 hours.
The Greenwich Peninsula Heat Network has been developed alongside the ambitious regeneration of Greenwich Peninsula. The network currently includes 87MW of heat generation, distributed via 16km of buried pipework, supplying heat to 33 buildings and 2,500 residential units. Network resilience is inbuilt, with thermal storage capacity sufficient to provide heat across the entire network for 24 hours.
The network is continually expanding, with full build out expected to supply 15,000 residential units and 215,000ft² of commercial space. Following a successful GHNF application for £4.6 m, work is underway to decarbonise the network through the installation of a 5MW ASHP, reducing carbon emissions by 6,100 tonnes/year.
The network has enabled a crucial platform to deliver community benefits for local residents and businesses hosting work experience programmes, educational visits to the energy centre for local education centres and opening career pathways into sustainable industries.
