British Sugar - Wissington
Wissington is the largest beet processing site in Europe and is fast approaching it’s 100th campaign in 2025. The site processes around three million tonnes of sugar beet every year, grown by over 1,000 local growers in the area. This is processed into around 400,000 tonnes of high-quality sugar and up to 70 million litres of ethanol.
Wissington is the largest beet processing site in Europe and is fast approaching it’s 100th campaign in 2025. The site processes around three million tonnes of sugar beet every year, grown by over 1,000 local growers in the area. This is processed into around 400,000 tonnes of high-quality sugar and up to 70 million litres of ethanol.
But Wissington produces so much more than just sugar. The site use 99% of the waste outputs from the sugar making process and turn them into a wide range of co-products, with less than 200 grams of waste for every tonne of sugar produced.
